Police said Monday that an associate professor at a national university in Fukui Prefecture under arrest over the alleged murder of a student under his tutelage may have had some personal problems with her.
Yasunori Maezono, 42, an environmental education specialist at Fukui University's Graduate School of Education, allegedly choked Miwa Sugawara, 25, to death on Thursday in her minicar while it was parked on a road in Katsuyama.
He was arrested Saturday on suspicion of murdering Sugawara.
