A Japanese woman traveling in Cambodia was injured by a gunshot Friday in Phnom Penh after drive-by robbers attempted to take her purse, a police officer said.

The woman and her husband, a Vietnamese national, had stepped off a city bus in Phnom Penh on Friday afternoon and were waiting to catch a tuk-tuk motorcycle taxi to their guest house when she was attacked by two unidentified men on a motorbike near the Olympic Stadium, the municipal police chief said.

When the woman resisted, one of the men fired a shot that nicked the right side of her hip. She was taken to a hospital but discharged soon afterward because her wounds were not serious.

Police said they are investigating the case and looking for the perpetrators.
