Two House of Representatives lawmakers from Your Party applied Thursday to join the Democratic Party of Japan, the nation's largest opposition party, a day after the smaller group decided to disband.

The DPJ will make arrangements to allow Koichi Yamauchi and Katsuhito Nakajima to run on the DPJ ticket in the upcoming Lower House election, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Edano told a press conference.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is set to dissolve the lower chamber of the Diet on Friday for a general election in December. Additional Your Party members are expected to apply to join the DPJ and other parties in the run-up to the election.

"I have a relationship of trust with the DPJ and am close to the party in terms of policies," said Yamauchi, who is expected to run in a single-seat constituency in Saitama Prefecture.

"I have many things I share with the DPJ," said Nakajima, who hopes to run in a single-seat district in Yamanashi Prefecture.
