An old shinkansen train was taken out of a closed railway museum in Osaka early Friday morning and transported to a local maintenance facility, with the goal of ultimately displaying the unit in Kyoto.

The 0 series train, one of the first shinkansen units built to run on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, which opened in 1964, was moved out of the Modern Transportation Museum in Osaka, which closed in April, for the first time since it started to be exhibited there in 1978.

The train was placed on wheels and pulled by a truck to a maintenance plant in Osaka, as many rail fans looked on.

It will be moved next summer to the Kyoto Railway Museum, which is scheduled to open in spring 2016, according to West Japan Railway Co.
