The father of the 16-year-old girl arrested last month on suspicion of killing and dismembering a female classmate in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, said Saturday his daughter's act "can never be forgiven for any reason or cause" and deeply apologized to the victim's family.

"I cannot even find the words for an apology," the father said in a statement. "It is truly regrettable I could do little, though we (parents) did our utmost by following the advice given by several hospitals."

The girl, who lives alone, is alleged to have strangled and bludgeoned a 15-year-old classmate who was visiting her apartment on July 26 before apparently dissecting the corpse.
