EVENT

Tropical resort getaway

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is organizing its fourth annual Red Brick Resort in August.

During the opening event on Saturday, Mitsuo Shimizu, a world-class ice sculptor, will carve a unicorn beetle while spectators look on.

Looking to convey an image of a tropical resort, the warehouse will be divided into a jungle corner and beach corner. The jungle resort area will have lush green trees surrounding a thatched-roof cottage. Guests can dip their feet in the nearby pond while enjoying various delicacies from Southeast Asia such as Thai chicken and basil stir-fry with rice, mojito and crushed ice with frozen fruit.

A unique firefly viewing booth will be open to the public next Monday through Friday.

In the beach area, visitors will be able to lie on white sand imported from Australia and green grass while looking out over Yokohama port.

After sunset, a short film will be shown in the outdoor theater, and the area will be lit up, creating a different atmosphere from the daytime.

The warehouse is also collaborating with the "Pikachu Outbreak! at Yokohama Minatomirai" event from Aug. 9 to 17 to serve Pikachu-themed food and soft drinks at the cottages in the beach resort area under the theme of "Pikachu on Vacation! in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse." A Pokemon stall with original goods will also be set up in the warehouse from next Tuesday to Aug. 14.

Admission to the warehouse is free and it will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
