Asahi Glass announces first price hike in over six years

JIJI

Asahi Glass Co. said Wednesday it will raise prices on its glass products for buildings by up to 20 percent on Sept. 1 due to surging material and fuel costs.

This will be the first price hike by the company since January 2008.

Prices will rise by 15 to 20 percent for flat glass for windows, 10 to 20 percent for processed glass with heat insulation and 10 to 15 percent for mirror products, the firm said.

The price hike by the largest domestic glass maker is expected to lead to increases in building and housing prices, industry sources said.
