The gaming unit of Sony Corp. said it will end shipments of the PlayStation Portable handheld game console in Japan by the end of this month. It launched in December 2004.
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. will now concentrate on marketing the successor device, the PlayStation Vita, which hit the Japanese market in December 2011.
The PSP's popularity stemmed from its high image quality as well as its ability to play movies and music on the go.
