Tokyo police on Friday presented a letter of appreciation to a 21-year-old Nepalese man for rescuing a woman who had fallen onto the tracks at JR Yotsuya Station on May 11.
Anuj Raj Karki, a part-time worker and Tokyo resident, was honored for the dramatic rescue of a woman in her 20s who fell from the platform just 10 seconds before a train arrived at around 11:20 p.m.
Karki, who was sitting on a platform bench, saw the woman — drunk and swaying on her feet — tumble onto the tracks and rushed over to help.
He reportedly jumped off the platform, grabbed the woman's arm and pulled her aside before the train rolled in. The woman suffered injuries, but they were not life-threatening, the police said.
Karki, who was not hurt, left soon after providing his personal information to the police.
