Kobe beef produced in Hyogo Prefecture is set to be exported to European Union nations for the first time, the local industry association announced Wednesday,

The first batch of the premium beef will be shipped to luxury restaurants and hotels in France, Germany, Denmark and Monaco as early as the end of May, according to the Kobe Beef Marketing and Distribution Promotion Association.

Since 2012, Kobe beef has been exported to Hong Kong, Macau and the United States, among other markets.
