Police said Tuesday they are set to investigate outspoken TV celebrity Madame Dewi, the widow of former Indonesian President Sukarno, on suspicion of assaulting a 33-year-old woman during the taping of a variety show earlier this month.

Seijo Police Station in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, got a complaint from the woman, who is not in show business, on Jan. 15 over the alleged Jan. 9 incident.

According to the police, the woman said Dewi slapped her three times when they and other people appeared on "Okusama wa Monster 2" at a studio in Setagaya Ward.

TBS broadcast the episode but cut the scene in question.

"We would like to refrain from making any comments as we are watching the situation," a TBS spokesman said.

Dewi, born Naoko Nemoto and officially known as Ratna Sari Dewi Sukarno, was one of Sukarno's several wives.
