NTT DoCoMo Inc. President Kaoru Kato is planning to attend a media event organized by Apple Inc. in California on Tuesday, where the Japanese carrier will likely be introduced as a new iPhone distributor, sources said.
At its head office, Apple is expected to unveil a new model of the iPhone and a low-priced model, along with a list of distributors.
With the addition of DoCoMo, all three major Japanese mobile phone carriers will handle the iPhone. Softbank Mobile Corp., a subsidiary of Softbank Corp., and KDDI Corp., are already authorized iPhone distributors in Japan.
The new iPhone model is expected to be released Sept. 20.
