Morinaga & Co. announced Wednesday that it is setting up a plant to produce Hi-Chew soft candy in North Carolina.
After production is launched in the middle of 2015, Morinaga plans to expand its local sales channels from convenience stores to include large supermarkets and drugstores, company officials said. To penetrate the U.S. market, it will sell its products in large bags, the officials said.
Since 2008, Morinaga has exported its products to the United States from its factory in Taiwan. It has sold small packs containing seven pieces of Hi-Chew, mainly at convenience stores.
