Panasonic unit seeks home improvement lift


A Panasonic Corp. in-house company in charge of housing-related operations plans to post sales of ¥2 trillion in fiscal 2018 by expanding business in home refurbishment and home energy management systems.

Tamio Yoshioka, president of the in-house firm, Panasonic Corp. Eco Solutions Co., said there are two types of energy management — one for houses that provides better insulation and ventilation, and HEMS. “We want to capitalize on advantages of the two,” Yoshioka said.

In home refurbishment, Eco Solutions will nearly double the number of specialized shops across Japan to 500 because the market is expected to replace the new home market.

Sales from the business in fiscal 2018 are projected at ¥350 billion, up 70 percent from fiscal 2012. Eco Solutions hopes that detailed services, such as customer record management and emergency responses, will distinguish itself from rivals.

Eco Solutions aims for sales of ¥120 billion in the HEMS business, double the fiscal 2012 level. It will provide comprehensive operations from production to storage of energy by leveraging high-market share products such as electrical construction materials and solar panels. It aims to promote product development in partnership with in-house companies that handle automotive products and white goods.
