OTTAWA – Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Liberal Party leader and strong candidate for prime minister, admitted Thursday that he has smoked marijuana since being elected to parliament, after recently calling for legalizing its use.
He told the Huffington Post that he smoked pot five or six times in his life, most recently three years ago with friends over for a dinner party.
This year he was picked to lead a party that held power for most of the last century but was relegated to the margins as the No. 3 political force in the last elections. Polls now put Trudeau ahead of Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
A self-described teetotaller, Trudeau has reportedly never smoked cigarettes and also does not drink coffee.
