Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Tuesday he hopes Japanese companies will provide the investment that is needed in India's infrastructure for economic growth to occur in the South Asian country.

At a luncheon meeting hosted by Keidanren, Singh, who is currently visiting Japan, called for Japanese companies' support in building an industrial corridor stretching from Delhi to Mumbai.

Hiromasa Yonekura, chairman of Keidanren, voiced hope that the two countries enhance economic ties.

Singh said India is looking to make the most out of an economic partnership agreement with Japan to stimulate trade activities.
