Fujitsu to verify cloud service through farm

Kyodo

Fujitsu Ltd. said Monday it will set up a farm on the premises of its plant in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, in mid-June to verify the effectiveness of its agricultural cloud computing service.

The maker of computer, network and software products will invest tens of millions of yen to set up the company’s first full-scale farm. The move is aimed at developing its service to help farm operators increase efficiency and yields by accumulating and analyzing farming data.

Using the cloud computing technology, which allows information to be shared via the Internet, Fujitsu will accumulate and analyze data, such as humidity and temperature levels, measured by sensors installed at the farm as well as how crops are affected by various conditions.
