Major ad agency Dentsu Inc. said Tuesday its group net profit increased 22.9 percent in fiscal 2012 from a year earlier to ¥36.34 billion due to a recovery in demand for advertising, mainly for television spots.

In its consolidated earnings report for the fiscal year that ended in March, the Tokyo-based company logged an operating profit of ¥58.47 billion, up 12.5 percent from the previous year, on sales of ¥1.94 trillion, up 2.5 percent.

The firm plans a yearend dividend of ¥16 per share, bringing its annual dividend for the current year to ¥32, up from ¥31 the previous year.

For the current fiscal year to next March 31, the ad giant projected its group net profit will fall 47.4 percent to ¥19.10 billion. Operating profit is expected to edge up 0.1 percent to ¥58.50 billion on sales of ¥2.28 trillion, up 17.6 percent.
