Universal Studios Japan booked its second-highest sales total in fiscal 2012, thanks to a rise in family attendance, the Osaka-based theme park said Thursday.

USJ's ¥82.1 billion in sales is 13 percent higher than the previous year and the most since it tallied ¥118.1 billion in fiscal 2001.

The theme park has put greater emphasis on attractions featuring popular characters, such as Snoopy, USJ Co. said.

The company did not disclose its profit for fiscal 2012.
