ACCRA – Ghana is recalling a shipment of 120 million Chinese-made condoms distributed to charities after testing showed that they were riddled with holes and prone to breaking, an official said.
Twenty million of the condoms have already been handed out and Ghana’s Food and Drug Authority is trying to get them back, said the agency’s head of enforcement, Thomas Amedzro.
“We asked the NGOs that distributed them to bring them back, so they are responding. They have holes and break easily,” he said.
The faulty condoms were freely distributed as part of anti-HIV/AIDS campaigns to charities that were working on reproductive health programs in Ghana.
