The quarantine station at Narita airport in Chiba Prefecture is displaying posters warning travelers to China to avoid coming close to animals, after the H7N9 type of avian influenza recently infected people in the country.

The quarantine station us urging people to frequently wash their hands and gargle and to consult doctors if they experience coldlike symptoms, including fever and coughing.

Travelers with such symptoms upon arriving in Japan are urged to visit quarantine stations. Those who develop the symptoms within 10 days after returning are asked to inform medical institutions about their recent travel to China.

"While there is no epidemic and no confirmation of human-to-human infection, a different type of influenza has been seen in China and Southeast Asia," a quarantine station official said Wednesday.
