NEC Corp. said Wednesday it has won an order from the Taiwan government for a disaster and emergency information system using its cloud computing services, providing such a platform overseas for the first time.

The system to be developed over a three-year period for Taiwan's National Fire Agency under the Interior Ministry is aimed at enhancing information-sharing islandwide, and facilitating rapid decision-making and on-site support for disaster responses.

It will use the geographic information systems and enable residents to provide the central and regional governments in Taiwan with disaster information via the Internet.

In the event of a disaster, necessary information can be swiftly distributed via television, radio, the Internet, mobile devices and digital signage, according to the company.
