All Nippon Airways Co. said Thursday its group net profit rose 54.6 percent in the April-December period to ¥52.24 billion, due partly to an increase in business passengers.

Its consolidated operating profit rose 18.0 percent to a record ¥107.52 billion for the nine-month period, compared with a year earlier, on revenue of ¥1.13 trillion, up 5.8 percent, ANA said.

ANA, which has recently faced a series of safety problems involving Boeing 787 Dreamliners, kept its full-year forecast for the business year through March.

The carrier said the grounding of the Dreamliner fleet and flight cancellations cut sales by ¥1.4 billion in January.

ANA, which operates more 787s than any other airline, expects to post a group net profit of ¥40 billion, up 42.0 percent, and a group operating profit of ¥110 billion, up 13.4 percent, on sales of ¥1.47 trillion, up 4.1 percent.

ANA, Japan Airlines Co. and six other operators stopped flying 787s after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration ordered the suspension of all flights following a lithium-ion battery fire, and an emergency landing by an ANA 787 Jan. 16 also with lithium-ion battery troubles.
