Shipments of personal computers in the domestic market last year rose 3.7 percent from 2011 to a record high 11.274 million units on brisk demand from individual and corporate users, an industry group reported.

The volume was up for the third consecutive year, marking the highest level seen since comparable data began to be compiled in 2007, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association announced Wednesday.

Shipments of notebook computers totaled 8.212 million units, up 7.2 percent year on year, accounting for 72.8 percent of overall domestic shipments, the association said, but the figure for desktop computers fell 4.5 percent to 3.062 million units.
