Idemitsu in Kochi biomass venture

JIJI

Major oil distributor Idemitsu Kosan Co. said it has set up a company for wood biomass power generation in Kochi Prefecture with two domestic partners.

The joint venture with Tosa Electric Railway Co. and the Kochi Prefecture Federation of Forest Owner’s Cooperative Associations, both based in Kochi, will build a 5,000-kw power plant in the city and aims to launch operations in April 2015, Idemitsu Kosan said Wednesday.

The venture, Tosa Green Power Corp., is owned 50 percent by Idemitsu Kosan and 25 percent each by the firm’s two partners.

Annual electricity generation at the plant, which will use only unused wood materials, is projected at some 36 million kwh, equivalent to the power consumption of some 10,000 households.
