Ohio plant to make the Accord hybrid

Kyodo

Honda Motor Co. said Thursday it will produce the hybrid version of its Accord sedan for the North American market at its plant in Ohio as the automaker’s third hybrid vehicle to be manufactured in the United States.

Honda’s move to start producing its flagship vehicle in the major market is aimed at reducing the impact of exchange rate fluctuations.

Honda said it will invest around $23 million, or ¥2 billion, in the Ohio factory and plans to newly employ around 50 workers. Key parts for the vehicle will be imported from Japan.

The Accord hybrid will be marketed next fall.
