An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 shook central Tokyo and its vicinity in the Kanto region Saturday but no tsunami warning was issued, the Meteorological Agency reported.

The temblor struck at 5:59 p.m. and measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale to 7 in Tokyo's Shibuya, Shinjuku, Shinagawa and Nakano wards, as well as in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture. In other parts of Tokyo, as well as Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma prefectures, it measured 3.

The focus was in the northwestern part of Chiba Prefecture at a depth of 8 km, according to the agency.
