The operator of Tokyo Skytree, at 634 meters the world's tallest broadcast tower, said observation decks will be open to the public early on New Year's Day for the first sunrise of 2013.

Tobu Tower Skytree Co. said Monday that 1,000 Skytree visitors will have a chance to observe the first sunrise, which is expected at 6:45 a.m., from the 350-meter-high and 450-meter-high decks, which will be open between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m.

The firm will sell 620 tickets online priced at ¥5,000 each. Applications will be accepted at its website between this Saturday and Nov. 26. Successful applicants, who will also receive commemorative gifts, will be notified by email Nov. 28.

Shoppers in Skytree's adjacent Tokyo Solamachi complex who buy items and services priced at ¥5,000 or more between Dec. 1 and 25 will be eligible for a pool of 100 tickets for the New Year's Day viewing. Another 280 tickets will be sold online by Tobu Travel Co. and other outlets.
