FRANKFURT/LONDON – A consortium led by Hitachi Ltd. is likely to win the race to acquire a British nuclear power venture involving Germany’s RWE AG and E.on AG, media reports said Thursday.
The German pair is seen announcing the successful bidder for Horizon Nuclear Power in the near future, the reports said. The deal is estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of euros.
The deal would likely give a boost to the nuclear power business of Hitachi, which is having difficulty signing a formal contract with the Lithuanian government.
In an interview with the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Peter Terium, chief executive officer of energy giant RWE, said the group will withdraw from the business of constructing nuclear power plants.
