Kozo Keikaku Engineering talks; UN Day forum on sustainability; kabuki documentary

Three-day business talk

Kozo Keikaku Engineering, an engineering design firm, will hold an event called KKE Vision 2012 from Oct. 24 to 26 at the Hilton Tokyo in Shinjuku.

Each day has a theme; the 24th is about new approaches to disaster prevention, the 25th is about business management of manufacturers and the 26th is about future society and life. Twenty sessions will be held by renowned instructors.

Ikujiro Nonaka, a professor emeritus at Hitotsubashi University, will offer a session about startup business models and innovations, starting at 10 a.m. on the 24th.

United Nations Day

The United Nations Information Center, United Nations University (UNU) and Environmental Partnership Council, in cooperation with Global Environment Outreach Center, will hold a free annual public forum to commemorate U.N. Day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 at U Thant International Conference Hall on the third floor of the UNU building in Tokyo.

U.N. Day is held each year in commemoration of the adoption of the United Nations Charter on Oct. 24, 1945.

This year’s U.N. Day public forum will be held under the theme of “Post ‘Rio+20′: Achieving the Future We Want.” The forum will provide an opportunity to discuss what the world can and what the world has to do to create a sustainable society, taking into account the setting of U.N. sustainable development goals, the process that member states agreed to launch at the Rio+20 conference.

You will only be contacted if no seats are available; no tickets will be issued. Simultaneous interpretation into English will be provided.

Kabuki documentary

Shochiku Co., a movie studio and a production company for kabuki, is offering a DVD and Blu-ray disc of the performance art and its venerated theater. “Waga Kokoro no Kabukiza (Kabukiza: Final Curtain [in English])” with English subtitles is available region-free.

“Kabukiza: Final Curtain” is a documentary on kabuki and the Kabukiza theater. The story is narrated by 11 celebrated leading actors who share their personal memories, covering the history of the theater, and the 16 months of special performances presented up until Kabukiza closed for reconstruction on April 30, 2010.
