MRJ to be fitted with engines in Aichi

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. will conduct final engine assembly and running tests for its small passenger jet at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.’s plant in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture.

Mitsubishi Aircraft said Thursday it will conduct the final engine assembly at MHI’s Nagoya Guidance & Propulsion Systems Works to streamline the development of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, Japan’s first small passenger jet, as their final assembly will take place at a nearby MHI plant.

Under an agreement with Pratt & Whitney, the U.S. firm will develop the MRJ’s engine and MHI will be in charge of final engine assembly. They will be mounted in MRJs at MHI’s Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works in the town of Toyoyama.
