Cuts spur McDonald’s tumbler recall

Kyodo

McDonald’s Holdings Co. (Japan) is recalling free promotional tumblers after 78 customers suffered injuries from protruding shards of glass.

McDonalds’s said Wednesday it has received 130 complaints since handing out the tumblers to customers purchasing Value Sets, which included french fries and a large soft drink, during an Olympic Cheer Coke Glass Campaign from June 19 to July 18.

The burger chain distributed some 6 million tumblers in six colors, although only the green, pink and gray giveaways appear to have injured customers. McDonald’s will provide replacements to clients who return defective ones from Friday through Oct. 31.

An in-house probe found that the maker contracted to produce the tumblers used flawed metallic molds, McDonald’s said.
