Sharp delays LCD filter merger

JIJI

Sharp Corp. said Thursday it is delaying a plan to merge the liquid crystal display color filter businesses of a subsidiary with two other firms until Aug. 1, instead of Saturday.

Sharp and the two firms, Toppan Printing Co. and Dai Nippon Printing Co., need more time than expected to carry out the integration procedures, Sharp said.

The subsidiary, Sharp Display Products Corp., based in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, will absorb the LCD color filter operations of Toppan and Dai Nippon at its LCD plant to boost efficiency.

After the integration, SDP will be owned 37.61 percent each by Sharp and the head of its Taiwanese capital alliance partner, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., and 9.54 percent each by Toppan and Dai Nippon.
