Lawson touts ‘Ultraman’ in Shanghai

Lawson Inc. plans to open a convenience store in Shanghai on June 8 that features “Ultraman,” the Japanese superhero television series that is also popular in China.

The special store has Ultraman-style interiors and staff uniforms, as well as original character goods. It will also have a children’s play area on the second floor with the aim of attracting families.

Manabu Matsuura, president of Lawson’s China unit, Shanghai Hualian Lawson Co., said the company plans to launch more stores in collaboration with popular Japanese characters.

He added that the company aims to boost the number of stores in the region around Shanghai to 1,500 by the end of 2015. Lawson opened its first store in Shanghai in 1996 and currently operates 350 outlets in the city.
