Manabe to take helm at JR West

Kyodo

West Japan Railway Co. said Friday that Vice President Seiji Manabe, 58, will be appointed president Tuesday to succeed Takayuki Sasaki, 65, who will become chairman.

JR West Chairman Noritaka Kurauchi, 76, will remain as a board member.

Sasaki took up the JR West presidency in 2009 when then President Masao Yamazaki resigned and was indicted over his alleged responsibility for the April 2005 train derailment in Hyogo Prefecture that killed 107 people.
