Reconstruction Agency to woo savvy execs

Kyodo

The Reconstruction Agency said Tuesday it will invite business experts from various organizations to support companies and attract businesses to parts of the Tohoku region that were ravaged by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The agency will set up a department around the beginning of April consisting of 20 staff members, including 15 business experts from Keidanren, the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the groups’ member firms.

In cooperation with other ministries and agencies, the planned department is expected to make proposals on issues such as tax incentives and deregulation in special economic zones to enhance reconstruction efforts, while compiling fundraising measures and reducing investment risks.
