Small firms eligible for Tepco discounts

Kyodo

Tepco will reward power-saving efforts by smaller businesses this summer with electricity discounts to reduce their additional financial burden from a planned rate hike April 1.

Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s announcement Monday of three types of discount plans comes amid an outcry from large-lot corporate users, whose power bills will spike by an average 17 percent from April.

But the utility now plans to discount electricity rates from October for smaller corporate users with contracts for between 50 kw and less than 500 kw, depending on the extent of their power-saving efforts between July and September.

The discounts are aimed at mainly benefitting small and medium-size businesses, Tepco said.
