Kyodo

Mie University has hired the head of the 500-year-old Koga ninja clan as a professor to research and teach how ninja techniques can be used in business.

The university said Tuesday that Jinichi Kawakami, 62, the 21st head of the Koga clan, will teach ninja knowhow starting Dec. 1 at its Community-University Cooperation Center in Tsu.

“I hope to compile research on ninja skills, which are the culmination of survival techniques, in a form that can be used in today’s society,” Kawakami said Tuesday.

Kawakami, of Wakasa, Fukui Prefecture, was 18 when he became head of the Koga clan, one of the two top ninja clans.
