Tanita Corp., maker of weight and body fat scales, has recently opened a restaurant in Tokyo's Marunouchi district to offer healthy lunches originally provided at its own office cafeteria.

The company said it decided to launch the Marunouchi Tanita Shokudo after receiving requests from readers of a book of Tanita cafeteria recipes.

At its Jan. 11 opening, about 50 people had lined up for lunch tickets by 8:30 a.m., with all 320 tickets being distributed by the time the doors opened.

The restaurant, open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, offers two menus — a daily lunch and weekly lunch — each of about 500 kilocalories and containing only around 3 grams of salt.

A body composition scale is placed in a corner of the restaurant and customers can receive free advice from a dietician.
