Taiwanese suspect commits suicide

A 30-year-old Taiwanese man wanted on suspicion of fatally stabbing two female students from Taiwan at their apartment in Tokyo’s Taito Ward on Thursday has committed suicide in Nagoya, police said Monday.

Chang Chih-yang, who had been missing since Thursday, slashed his throat with a knife while being taken in for questioning by police, Tokyo police said.

Police had obtained an arrest warrant for him over the murder of Lin Chih-ying, 22, and Chu Li-chieh, 24, and put him on a wanted list. A student at the same Japanese-language school as the two women, the suspect had told his roommate he was going to Osaka.

Chang is believed to have been fond of Lin but reportedly started saying in mid-December that she had been acting cool to him. Security camera footage near the murder site spotted Chang at around the time of the slayings, police said.
