Kagawa rapist’s 28-year term stands

Kyodo

The Takamatsu High Court on Tuesday rejected an appeal by a man over his 28-year prison term for raping and robbing eight junior high and high school girls from fall 2009 to summer 2010 in Kagawa Prefecture.

According to the court, Makoto Onishi, 27, pretended to have been hit by the girls while they were riding bikes and then threatened them by saying that yakuza would come to their homes unless they had sex with him and handed over money and underwear.

The crimes took place in Marugame between October 2009 and August 2010, the court found.

Onishi’s lawyers argued that he was guilty of extortion rather than robbery and had received inappropriate punishment.

Judge Kenichi Hasegawa of the high court said there were no factual errors in the first trial and that Onishi caused “immense damage” to the victims.
