PYONGYANG – Seven children from Japan visited Pyongyang in late August to interact with North Korean children, making crafts and drawing pictures together, according to the Relief Campaign Committee for Children, Japan, the NGO that organized the event.
The seven kids from Japan included Korean residents of Japan. They visited elementary schools and drew pictures titled “my treasure” with North Korean first- through fourth-graders.
One child drew a soccer ball while another drew a guitar, representing their treasures, the organizer said.
Mothers of the North Korean children came to see their kids get together with the Japanese children.
Though diplomatic relations between Japan and North Korea remain difficult, the NGO has organized a picture exhibition showing works of Japanese, North Korean and South Korean children since 2001 to promote exchanges among children in the three Northeast Asian neighbors.
The group plans to organize the 11th exhibit in Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo later this year.
