The live broadcast of Japan’s victory in the Women’s World Cup soccer final early Monday attracted an average viewer rating of 21.8 percent in the Tokyo area during the second half and hit 27.7 percent at one point, a rating agency said Tuesday.
The rating for the slot from 5 to 6:30 a.m. on the Fuji TV network peaked when captain Homare Sawa was interviewed after the match, Video Research Ltd. said.
The figure for the first half of the program from 3:35 to 5 a.m. was 11.8 percent.
In the Kansai region including Osaka, the average rating was 11.2 percent in the first half and 19.4 percent in the second half, peaking at 27.9 percent during the postgame interview with team captain Homare Sawa.
