Quake to make Japan stronger: poll

Kyodo

Six out of every 10 Japanese believe that their homeland will become a stronger nation as a result of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and the subsequent nuclear disaster at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant, a recent U.S. poll shows.

“This sense of promise is consistent across age, income and other major demographic groups,” says the Washington-based Pew Research Center polling institute that conducted the survey on about 700 Japanese adults in April and May.

The survey, released Wednesday, says 58 percent of the respondents say Japan will become stronger while 32 percent think the calamities will weaken it..
