Teen stabs girl in school, calls police to confess

YAMAGUCHI (Kyodo) A male student at a high school in Yamaguchi Prefecture was arrested Thursday for stabbing a female classmate in the shoulder in the second knife attack at a school this week.

The 15-year-old victim in Thursday’s attack sustained several minor wounds to her right shoulder. The attack at the school in Tabuse, Yamaguchi Prefecture, took place at 8:05 a.m., police said.

The male student, also 15, was arrested on suspicion of assault and violating the weapon control law after officers arrived on the scene following a report from the student himself, the police said.

They said the boy, who was at the entrance of the school when they arrived, identified himself as the person who reported the incident. He had a 20-cm kitchen knife in his bag.

He reportedly said he brought the knife from home and stabbed the other student “out of frustration, but had no intention of killing her.”

The police said the two students were alone in a fourth-floor classroom before the class began. He stabbed the girl, who was standing near a window, from behind, they said.

On Tuesday, a 15-year-old girl was arrested for stabbing a classmate sitting next to her in Seishin Girls Senior High School in Yokohama.

The victim, also 15, was listed Wednesday in critical condition after being stabbed with a fruit knife with a 12-cm blade that sliced through her liver and reached a kidney. The attack occurred just after noon in a crowded classroom.

An earlier report said the suspect reportedly told police the victim and her friends who come and chat around her desk were “so noisy and annoying.”
