A couple infected with HIV will undergo in vitro fertilization treatment at a Tokyo hospital, possibly next month, the vice director of the medical center said Monday.

A research panel under the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry concluded there are no problems with this specific case, the first of its kind in Japan.

Still free of the disease more than 20 years after infection, neither the husband nor wife, both in their late 30s, has been treated with anti-AIDS drugs.
