An exhibition of photographs by foreign diplomats will open Saturday in Tokyo, displaying a wide variety of work imbued with humor, affection and curiosity about Japan.

About 80 works by 56 diplomats and their spouses, representing 35 countries and the European Commission, were selected from some 500 submissions that freely interpreted the theme "Japan and Beyond."

The grand prize of the 10th annual exhibition, which will move to Nagoya next month and Osaka in December, was awarded to Sara Luna, third secretary at the Mexican Embassy. Her piece shows an upside-down reflection of Tokyo Tower and other skyscrapers in a glass of water, with an unfocused panoramic view of central Tokyo in the background.
