A formerly homeless American-born artist who was interned during World War II and the subject of an award-winning film will go to Japan for the first time in decades to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in August and attend the film's theatrical release.

Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani, 87, is the lively subject of the moving documentary, "The Cats of Mirikitani," which has won international accolades at film festivals and opened theatrically to critical acclaim in Manhattan.

The film is scheduled to be shown in Japan in late August or early September with screenings in Tokyo and possibly other cities, including Hiroshima, from where Mirikitani's family originally hails.
