Karate master, 67, in molestation

Kyodo

A 67-year-old self-proclaimed karate master was arrested Monday on suspicion of molesting a junior high school girl in June in Gyoda, Saitama Prefecture.

Yasuji Kakinuma, who claims to have the sixth “dan” in karate, has denied molesting the girl, who was one of his students, police said. Further information about the victim was not disclosed.

According to police, Kakinuma, who teaches karate to some 20 elementary and junior high school students in Gyoda, approached the girl on June 3, saying she needed a massage. Kakinuma touched her legs and other areas, police alleged.

The girl reported the incident to her parents, who then took the matter to police, leading to his arrest Monday.
