A symposium to mark the 50th anniversary of a hydrogen bomb test at Bikini Atoll in the Marshal Islands will be held Saturday in Tokyo.
Three researchers, including one from the Marshal Islands, will discuss the effects that 67 U.S. nuclear weapons tests conducted in the 1940s and 1950s still have on people and the environment as well as the compensation offered by Washington.
These reports will be followed by a panel discussion led by Hiromitsu Toyosaki, a photo journalist who has frequently visited the islands, and Tetsuo Maeda, a professor at Tokyo International University who was a pioneer researcher in this field, and others.
The symposium will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in Nippon Seinenkan Hall, which is a seven-minute walk from Gaienmae Station on the Ginza subway line or a nine-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the JR Sobu Line.
